Demand currently sits at 10,047 MW, down from an overnight high above 11,470 MW. The 24-hour trend shows prices troughing near $19-30/MWh in the pre-dawn low-demand window (05:05-05:10 AEST) before climbing sharply into this morning's ramp, consistent with typical winter morning demand build.
Generation mix shows black coal supplying 7,064 MW, the dominant source, alongside hydro at 1,352 MW, battery storage discharging 747 MW, wind at 427 MW, solar at 105 MW, and minor gas OCGT output of 34 MW. Renewable penetration sits at 27.0%, having climbed as high as 47.3% overnight (02:00 AEST) when demand was low and wind/hydro carried a larger share, before falling back as coal ramped for the morning peak. Carbon intensity currently reads 0.6413 tCO2/MWh, down from a peak of 0.7033 tCO2/MWh in yesterday afternoon's low-renewable window, tracking inversely with the renewable percentage as expected.

Through tomorrow's daytime trading, forecast prices moderate into the $85-137/MWh band, with the lowest-cost window identified between 15:30-16:30 AEST (avg $39.75/MWh) — a strong candidate for flexible load-shifting, offering savings of roughly $260/MWh versus today's peak. Weather today features cool conditions (6.6°C, heading to a 15.7°C max) with low wind potential (3.1 average) and moderate solar potential (22.6 average), suggesting renewable output will remain constrained relative to coal generation through the day.
No active market notices directly affect NSW generation adequacy today. Recent notices relate primarily to SA region reserve conditions (LOR1/LOR2, now cancelled) and Belalie-Davenport line outage constraints affecting Victoria-SA interconnector flows.
