Spot price is holding at $54.50/MWh, well off the negative pricing seen overnight (as low as -$12.60/MWh) when demand bottomed out. The transition from negative to positive pricing tracked closely with the demand ramp: prices flipped positive around 5,100 MW near 05:55 AEST and climbed to $70-77/MWh once demand cleared 6,200-6,900 MW through the 07:00-08:30 AEST morning peak, confirming a tight demand-price relationship in this range.
The day's price trajectory has already shown clear sensitivity to load. Peak pricing of $76.79/MWh printed at 07:00 AEST alongside demand near 6,282 MW, and the market held in the low-to-mid $70s/MWh through mid-morning as demand pushed toward a session high of 7,058 MW at 08:25 AEST. Prices eased back to the $61-64/MWh band through the middle of the day as demand moderated to around 5,800-6,700 MW, then softened further to the mid-$50s/MWh range through the afternoon trough near 5,300-5,400 MW between 15:00 and 17:00 AEST. This afternoon dip aligns with mild conditions — current temperature is 11°C with cooling demand at zero and heating demand modest at 7, limiting weather-driven load.
Forecast data points to a stronger price response tomorrow morning, with the 07:00-09:00 AEST window projected at $72.50-93.43/MWh, well above today's comparable levels, before easing to a $72.50/MWh plateau through midday and afternoon. Overnight pricing tonight is forecast to stay negative, in the -$6 to -$8/MWh range from 21:00 AEST through to the pre-dawn hours, consistent with the low-demand, minimum-load pattern seen in the current 24-hour data. No Queensland-specific demand-side notices are active; the current market notices relate to SA voltage control interventions and minimum system load conditions in that region, with no direct QLD demand impact today.
