Overnight NEM prices were soft across the board — Victoria touched $10–$13/MWh in the early hours before the morning ramp took hold. By 06:35 AEST, all mainland regions were tracking upward: NSW at $97/MWh with 7,913 MW of demand, Victoria at $88/MWh with 5,706 MW, Queensland at $93/MWh with 6,591 MW, and South Australia at $85/MWh with 1,394 MW climbing. Tasmania was mid-ramp at $106/MWh after demand bottomed near 920 MW in the mid-afternoon. Interconnector flows are uncongested across all six links, with the dominant flow sitting at 423 MW northbound on VIC–NSW. Watch the morning demand peak across NSW and VIC — both regions are in active ramp territory as this digest publishes.
Tasmania recorded 100% renewable penetration during early evening on 13 May, with aggregate generation of approximately 1,050–1,065 MW — hydro contributing around 850–870 MW and wind the remainder at 175–200 MW. No gas-fired output was recorded across the interval. Wholesale prices held steady at $96/MWh during the event. Tasmania also carries the lowest grid emissions intensity on the NEM at 0.03 tCO₂/MWh, with South Australia the next lowest at 0.12 tCO₂/MWh on 81% renewables. Over the 24-hour period, TAS1 posted the highest average of the NEM mainland-plus-island group at $99/MWh, with a daily max of $126/MWh.
